Brandon Gallas remembers
I met Ashish through Joel Saltz. I wanted to create a dataset of pathologist annotations on a set of breast cancer biopsies using caMicroscope. I was desperate, without a plan. Ashish joined my collaboration team on his own time and created a workflow for the data collection and hosted the study. All the while, I would be stressing over minutia, and he would say the right thing to put me on the right track. “Not a problem. We can just do it.”
He stepped away from the team right as we started the study to fight his cancer. He showed up at our team meetings about a year and half later, and I was grateful to see him again. Yes! Another point for modern medicine! Ashish would say just enough to unstick a log jam, again with a “We can just do it.” It gave me confidence and resolution that the work, and any large complex problem, can be done by showing up and doing it each day. I will miss him. I wish his family and friends comfort.
